DHAKA, Sept 7, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus today called for collective efforts to build a knowledge-based, inclusive and humane society by utilizing the combined power of technology and literacy.

"The current interim government is trying to build Bangladesh in a new way after the July mass uprising. Let us work towards building a Bangladesh where a knowledge-based, inclusive and humane society will be built with the combined power of technology and literacy," he said in a message issued on the occasion of "International Literacy Day 2025".

Dr Yunus said: "I am happy to know that 'International Literacy Day 2025' is being observed in Bangladesh on September 8 like other countries of the world.

Literacy is an essential element for the development and progress of a nation, he said, adding: "In this modern technology-dependent world, the concept of literacy is not limited to reading and writing alone, but it has been linked to digital knowledge, information usage skills and the ability to participate in technology-based education."

Now finding information, analyzing it, learning online and finding solutions to everyday problems are all part of effective literacy, he further said.

"Those who are lagging behind in the use of information technology are not only deprived of education, but are also being cut off from the mainstream of society and economy," the Chief Adviser continued.

He lauded this year's theme of the Day which is 'Promoting Literacy in a Digital Era' saying the theme is timely and very significant.

The importance of work-oriented and skill-based education is immense to survive in the current competitive world, Dr Yunus said.

"Therefore, our education system must be developed in such a way that, along with traditional education, opportunities to acquire digital skills are open to everyone, especially women, children, marginalized communities and people with special needs," he added.

"We all need to work together to bring about digital training for teachers, necessary technology in the hands of students and a change in the attitude of parents," the CA remarked.

Dr Yunus wished for the overall success of all the programs undertaken on the occasion of 'International Literacy Day 2025'.
