DHAKA, Sept 7, 2025 (BSS) – Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today said that women's active participation is crucial for developing a thriving animal nutrition sector in Bangladesh because they are heavily involved in livestock care, management, and decision-making.

“The national nutritional needs will be met not through big farmers, but through the combined efforts of men and women of rural Bangladesh,” she said while speaking as the chief guest at a programme to distribute animals and animal feed among the partners under the Integrated Livestock Development Project in the char areas of Manikganj, Dhaka, Munshiganj, Rajbari, Faridpur and Shariatpur districts at Ati Bhawal High School, Keraniganj.

Farida said that even though women in the char areas do not have land or property in their names, cattle are their own assets.

“Women's economic empowerment makes it easier to meet family, education and medical expenses, which a man in the family may not always be able to do from his income,” she added.

Director General of the Department of Livestock Services Dr Md Abu Sufian presided over the meeting while Project Director Dr Md. Abdur Rahim, among others, spoke on the occasion.
