Govt to import 1.40 lakh MTs fertilizer, 10,000 MTs phosphoric acid

DHAKA, Sep 9, 2025 (BSS) - The government today approved five separate proposals to import some 140,000 Metric Tons (MTs) of fertilizer and 10,000 MTs of phosphoric acid under state-level agreements.

The approvals came from the current year's 35th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held today with Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.
 
This fertilizer will come from Morocco and Canada aimed at ensuring smooth supply of agricultural inputs ahead of the upcoming cultivation season.

All the consignments will be imported by Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) and Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) under the existing intergovernmental contracts with the Ministry of Industries and Ministry of Agriculture placing the proposals before the committee.

Under the first proposal, BADC will import some 30,000 MTs of TSP fertilizers from OCP Nutricrops, Morocco at a cost of Taka 212.95 crore.

Each metric ton will be procured at $579. This consignment marks the 5th lot of fertilizer to be brought under the ongoing deal with the Moroccan supplier.

The second proposal covers 40,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer from Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) at a total cost of Taka 177.03 crore.

The unit price has been set at $361 per ton. This import falls under the 6th lot of shipments from Canada.

The third proposal involves the procurement of 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer from the Moroccan OCP Nutricrops. The total procurement cost stands at Taka 381.69 crore, with each ton priced at $778.33. 

The fourth proposal involves the procurement of 30,000 metric tons of granular urea through BCIC from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO). The total procurement cost stands at Taka 166.47 crore, with each ton priced at $452.63. 

Besides, the Purchase Committee meeting also approved a proposal of importing phosphoric acid. 

Under the Industries Ministry's proposal, the committee cleared the import of 10,000 metric tons of phosphoric acid (P2O5: 52-54%) for TSPCL at a cost of Taka 102.19 crore with each ton priced at $793.80.
