2 BIWTA officials suspended for taking bribe

DHAKA, Sept 10, 2025(BSS) - The Ministry of Shipping today suspended two senior officials of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) allegedly for taking bribe from a contractor.

The ministry following an instruction from Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Rtd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain has suspended Additional Director (Marine) of the BIWTA Md Abdur Rahim and its Deputy Director Md Obaidul Karim Khan. 

According to the allegation, the two officials took bribe from a contractor assuring him to get a contact for supplying fuel for the department. 

The ministry also constituted an inquiry committee to find out the details of the allegation for taking departmental actions against the persons involved in the incident.
