Govt to take strict steps to recover loans: Sakhawat

DHAKA, Sept 10, 2025 (BSS) - Shipping and Labour and Employment Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hussain today said that the government will take strict actions against the owners of the industries concerned those took interest-free loans for the payment of arrears of wages of the workers and did not return the loans on time.

"In order to resolve labour dissatisfaction due to the failure of the owners of various industrial units to pay their workers wages, the government 
provided interest-free loans to several groups from the Finance Division and the Central Fund, Ministry of Labour and Employment. But the concerned industries didn't repay the loans yet," he said.

The adviser said this while presiding over a meeting at the secretariat in the city, said a press release.

The groups are Birds Group, TNZ Group, Beximco Group, Dard Group, Niagara Textiles Limited, Rower Fashion Limited, Mahmud Jeans Limited, Stylecraft Limited and Goldstar Garments Limited.

Shakhawat Hossain said that initiatives have already been taken to issue Interpol red notices against some of the fugitive owners.

"This loan money is the workers' money and the people's tax money. This money must be repaid by next December," he added.

Concerned officials of the Finance Division, Financial Institutions Division and representatives from the Bangladesh Bank and BGMEA, were present on the occasion.
