DHAKA, Sept 11, 2025 (BSS) – The government has sent to forced retirement two Public Works Department (PWD) engineers and demoted another on charges of professional “misconduct”, officials said here today.

The Public Works and Housing ministry issued three notifications that slapped the punitive actions against the three sub-assistant engineers related to building construction and material purchases of Rooppur Green City project.

The two junior engineers to lose their jobs are Md Fazle Haque and Shahnaz Akter and the third one demoted is Khorsheda Yasriba, whose pay grade was lowered to the immediate lower scale.

Works and Housing ministry secretary M Nazrul Islam signed the notifications explaining the background of the allegations, detailing the investigation process and the legal procedures for the punitive actions.

The notifications said the investigations found the accused were negligent to their duties in overseeing the purchasing process.

The notifications pointed out the allegations of irregularities were made public in 2019 while several newspapers at that time called the scandal as “balishkanda” or the ‘pillow scandal’ as well.
