DHAKA, Sept 11, 2025 (BSS)- The government has asked all employees of the Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS) to immediately return to work and refrain from illegal activities, warning that mass leave (Gono Chuti) may be converted into permanent leave for those in emergency sectors.
A press release from the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources today said several initiatives are taken to resolve tensions between the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) and PBS, including reviewing transfer decisions and administrative actions.
Despite these efforts, some employees began an illegal "mass holiday (Gono Chuti)" from September 7.
The government urged them to rejoin the work within 24 hours and noted that many have already returned, while some faced obstacles.
To address corruption allegations, a high-level committee led by a former secretary has been formed to investigate BREB's procurement activities over the past five years.
The government is reviewing BREB’s structural framework and updating the 'Palli Bidyut Samity Karmachari Chakri Bidhi, 1992 (amended 2012)', so that the administrative and financial demands of employees can be fulfilled easily.
