DHAKA, Sept 13, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of Environment (DoE) today carried out multiple drives across the country as part of its ongoing efforts to curb noise and air pollution, leading to fines, equipment seizures and official cautions in several locations.

In the capital's Gulshan-2 area, a mobile court conducted a surprise inspection at an under-construction building site where piling operations
were underway, according to a press release.

The noise level at the site was recorded at 90.3 decibels, significantly exceeding the permissible limit set under the Noise Pollution (Control)
Rules, 2006.

Following the violation, the entity responsible was fined BDT 5,000.

The site supervisor was also cautioned against operating high-noise machinery beyond 7:00 PM, in accordance with the law.

On the same day, another mobile court operation was carried out in the Tikatuli area of the city, targeting vehicular emissions.
Using a Smoke Opacity Meter, emissions from five diesel-run buses/coaches were tested.

One vehicle was found to have crossed the allowable emission and was fined BDT 2,000.

Meanwhile, a separate drive was conducted in Manikganj's Jaygir High School area along the Dhaka-Aricha Highway, focusing on noise pollution from vehicles.

Under Rule 8(1) of the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules, 2006, four vehicles were prosecuted.

A total fine of BDT 10,000 was realized and ten hydraulic horns were seized during the operation.
