Shipping Adviser Dr Sakhawat visits Barishal river port

BARISHAL, Sept 13, 2025 (BSS) – Shipping Adviser Brig. Gen. (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain today visited the renovation work of the Jail Canal, Fish Landing Center at Port Roads and the Steamer Ghat of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) here.

After the visit, the Shipping adviser, who is also in charge of the ministry of labour and employment talked to the local journalists at the Circuit House auditorium in the city.

Speaking on the occasion, he said a project to prevent river erosion in Hijla and Mehendiganj upazilas involving Tk nearly 850 crore has been awaiting for approval. 

In this connection, he said all the projects being implemented by the ministry concerned for the development of Barishal are in progress. 

“Besides, I am personally working to quickly complete the proposed, implemented and ongoing projects in other ministries so that they can be handed over in the shortest possible of time,”  he added. 

BIWTC Chairman Salim Ullah, Barishal Divisional Commissioner Raihan Kaisar, Deputy Commissioner Delwar Hossain, among others, accompanied the adviser during the visit at Barishal River port.
