Culture Secretary pays tribute to Farida Parveen

DHAKA, Sept 14, 2025 (BSS) - Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Md Mofidur Rahman today paid rich tribute to eminent folk singer Farida Parveen on behalf of the ministry.

He paid homage while Farida Parveen's body was brought to the Central Shaheed Minar here for the public to pay their last respects, a press release said.

The body of the legendary singer was placed at the Shaheed Minar premises this morning, where people from all walks of life, including cultural personalities and members of different socio-cultural organizations, gathered to pay tribute.

While talking to reporters, the Cultural Affairs Secretary said that Farida Parveen made outstanding contributions to Bengali music, particularly Lalon Sangeet.

"Lalon's songs in her voice not only conveyed melodious emotions, but also took the underlying philosophy and sense of life in our culture to a new level," he added.

Her artistic practice has inspired generations, he said.
He added that the ministry will take necessary steps to preserve the artist's memory.

Later, the namaz-e-janaza of Farida Parveen was held at the Dhaka University Central Mosque. Following the janaza, the body will be taken to Kushtia, where she will be laid to rest.

Farida Parveen breathed her last at a city hospital on Saturday night at the age of 71.
