River Police to launch nationwide operation to protect mother Hilsha

DHAKA, Sept 29, 2025 (BSS) – The River Police is going to launch a 22-day nationwide operation from October 4 to protect the mother Hilsha, according to a press release of the force. 
 
Chief of the River Police Additional Inspector General (IGP) Kusum Dewan has announced of launching the operation at a view exchange meeting at the conference room of the River Police Headquarters in the capital.  
 
“This operation will continue for 22 days from October 4. During this time, the collection, transportation, storage, purchase and sale, processing, marketing and exchange of Hilsa will be prohibited throughout the country,” he said.
 
Officers of various ranks including DIGs, Additional DIGs, Superintendents of Police, and Additional Superintendents of Police, police inspectors were directly and virtually joined the meeting.
 
The meeting reviewed the possible risks, obstacles or attacks by miscreants during the operation. 
 
The River Police chief stressed the need for work in coordination with the fishing communities and authorities concerned for a safe and successful operation. 
 
“Conduct the operation with the required number of officers and forces and to coordinate with other relevant organizations,” he said. 
 
He called for strengthening  recovery of more illegal fishing nets  than the previous years.
