
CHATTOGRAM, Nov 18, 2025 (BSS) - Professor Dr. Mohammad Lutfur Rahman, Vice Chancellor of Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) today said that antimicrobial resistance is a significant threat to future generations.
He emphasized the urgent need to take decisive action to curb the misuse and overuse of antimicrobial drugs.
Addressing a day-long event to commemorate World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week 2025, the VC highlighted the importance of rational antibiotic use, good biosecurity practices, public awareness and policy adherence in controlling AMR.
The event was hosted by the university's Department of Physiology, Biochemistry, and Pharmacology with Professor Dr. Amir Hossain Saikat, Head of the Department in the chair.
He also emphasized that tackling AMR requires a combination of research-based knowledge, skilled manpower, and public awareness.
During the closing ceremony, speakers highlighted the importance of a coordinated effort involving the government, policymakers, physicians, veterinarians, the pharmaceutical industry, and the general public to control antimicrobial resistance.
Earlier, the day started with a vibrant awareness procession on antimicrobial resistance led by the University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammad Lutfur Rahman.
During the procession, teachers, students, and participants from various levels advocated for the responsible use of antimicrobial drugs and raised awareness through placards, banners, and slogans.
Following this, technical sessions and panel discussions took place at the CVASU auditorium.
Additionally, a week-long video competition, poster and cartoon exhibition, extempore speeches, and a quiz competition were organized to engage students in promoting awareness about AMR.
The winners of these competitions were recognized and awarded.
Prof Gautam Kumar Debnath, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at CVASU; Dr. Anindya Kumar Nath, Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at USTC; Prof Dr. A. K. M. Saifuddin, Director (External Activities) at CVASU; Prof Dr. Md. Ahsanul Haque, Assistant Director at One Health Institute and Momin Ud Daula, Managing Director and CEO of ION Group of Industries were present at the event, among others.
