DHAKA, Nov 18, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said late Barrister Maudud Ahmed, a renowned lawyer and politician, was a democratic leader in a true sense.

“Maudud Ahmed was a truly democratic leader. We will find this quality in this book and in his other writings that he was a democratic political leader from head to toe," said he said while speaking as chief guest at a book launch ceremony titled "Demise of Democracy: Bangladesh on the Way to a Failed State, 2009-2019, authored by Maudud Ahmed at a hotel in Gulshan.

Referring to Barrister Maudud Ahmed’s constant support for the oppressed and persecuted, Fakhrul mentioned, "After independence, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman created a system of misrule and was torturing common people through the formation of the Rakkhi Bahini. Maudud Ahmed stood by these persecuted people."

Highlighting the politician’s contribution to historical practice, the senior BNP leader further said, "He carried out the work of historical practice with sincerity and dedication. As a politician, he may face criticism or controversy, but I don’t believe there is any scope to criticize his historical writings."

Emphasizing the importance of such books for the youth, he concluded, "I believe reading this book is extremely necessary for our young people and youths who have brought about this extraordinary success today and freed us from the fascists."
