JU renames four halls previously named after Hasina, family

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Dec 5, 2025 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have renamed four residential halls that were previously named after former ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family members.

The decision was approved at a syndicate meeting held on Thursday night, Acting Registrar and Syndicate Secretary A B M Azizur Rahman told BSS this afternoon.

He said Sheikh Russel Hall has been renamed Nawab Salimullah Hall, Sheikh Hasina Hall is now July Chobbish Jagoroni Hall, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall has been renamed Sher-e-Bangla A K Fazlul Huq Hall and Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall is now Shaheed Felani Khatun Hall.

"The syndicate endorsed the new names in response to earlier demands raised by teachers and students of the university," he added.
