DHAKA, Jan 3, 2026 (BSS) - The grave of Bangladesh's first female Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar has turned into a site of continuous prayers, tribute, and floral adoration, drawing crowds four days after her burial.

Despite dense fog shrouding the city, people began arriving early in the morning to pay homage to the beloved leader. Some came with flowers in hand, while others offered silent prayers.

A visit to the gravesite today revealed long queues of BNP leaders, activists, and supporters from across Dhaka as well as various districts and upazilas. Members of allied organizations, students, and citizens from all walks of life also visited to pay their respects.

The grave's platform was adorned with flowers, and visitors were seen standing with bowed heads for extended periods, while others prayed with closed eyes. The recitation of the Holy Quran echoed from a nearby microphone, adding to the solemn atmosphere.

Madrasah students and teachers recited Quranic verses from a small stage beside the grave, the melody heightening the sense of grief and reverence.

Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal activist Manjurul Islam told BSS, "Khaleda Zia is not just a political leader to us; she represents our faith, courage, and love. I entered politics inspired by her ideology and that is why I return to her grave repeatedly."

Rafiul, a visitor from Rayerbagh, said, "Begum Khaleda Zia was a true leader who always spoke for the country and its people, never for herself. Visiting her grave today feels like repaying a small debt to her legacy."

A young activist standing silently at the grave added, "I still cannot believe she is gone. Ever since I understood politics, I have seen Khaleda Zia, listened to her speeches, and joined her processions. Her departure is deeply painful for us."

Leaders and activists of various BNP-affiliated organizations also paid floral tributes, transforming the gravesite into more than a resting place. In the foggy city, it has become a symbol of memory, love and devotion.

Many bring children to show them an important chapter of the nation's history. No matter how thick the fog, it cannot diminish the emotional pull of the site.

The flow of visitors continues throughout the day, reflecting the enduring respect and affection for Begum Khaleda Zia. Her gravesite has become a silent witness to the prayers, tears, and final homage of millions.

Begum Khaleda Zia, the steadfast leader of Bangladesh's democracy movement and a three-time Prime Minister, passed away at the age of 80 on the morning of December 30 at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.
