DHAKA, Jan 8, 2026 (BSS) - Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain directed the formation of a three-member probe committee to investigate allegations of indiscriminate hill cutting for land filling at Ramgarh land port in Khagrachari.

The instruction followed a report published in the Bangla daily, highlighting the environmental damage caused by the hill cutting.

According to an official handout today, the committee has been asked to complete its on-site investigation and submit a report within three days.

Sakhawat emphasized that the government places the highest priority on environmental protection, natural balance, and national interest. He warned that if any hill cutting or illegal land-filling activities are confirmed, strict legal action will be taken against the perpetrators.

He also urged verification of the allegations to establish the facts and identify those responsible for the incident.

The adviser noted that the Ramgarh land port was constructed during the previous government and its geo-economic importance had been assessed earlier. An expert committee was formed to re-evaluate the benefits of the project for Bangladesh.

Authorities have been instructed to take further action based on the recommendations of the expert committee.
