KHULNA, Jan 17, 2026 (BSS) - More than three thousand helpless and destitute people in Paikgachha of Khulna have been provided with high-quality blankets, like previous years, amid biting cold and dense fog.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and Joint Editor of the daily Ittefaq Anwar Aldeen distributed the blankets at the premises of Kapilmuni Srirampur Zia Primary Health Care Centre. 

Poor and marginal people from at least ten villages received blankets, giving them some relief from the winter cold.

Cold-stricken people expressed joy upon receiving new blankets and shared their happiness.

Before the distribution, addressing those present, Anwar Aldin said that during the winter, disasters, and difficult times, they regularly try to provide all possible assistance to the helpless and destitute people of the region to the best of their capacity. 

He said they have also contributed, as much as possible, to the development of roads in the area. 

Mosques, madrasas, and hospitals have been established, and deep tube wells have been installed in several villages and markets to lessen the shortage of safe drinking water.

Anwar Aldin said only those who lack warm cloths can truly understand the suffering caused by winter. 

With collective efforts, it is possible to protect the poor from the hardships of winter, he said. 

The BSS chairman said they are happy to stand beside the helpless and poor people of the Kapilmuni–Paikgachha area, and that their activities for the poor in this region will continue. 

On the occasion, he sought prayers for the eternal peace of the departed soul of three time former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and prayed for the sound health and long life of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.

District BNP members Sheikh Samsul Alam Pintu and Sheikh Imdadul Islam, former Sonadana Union Parishad Chairman and former General Secretary of Upazila BNP SM Enamul Haque, Kapilmuni Union BNP Convener Sheikh Anarul Islam, BNP leader Iskandar, senior Khulna district Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Tanvir Alam, Paikgachha Upazila Chhatra Dal Convener Sarojit Ghosh Deben, Member Secretary Saddam Hossain, Akij Uddin, former UP member Abul Kashem Hazra, Press Club President Md. Shafiul Islam Hazra, journalists Sheikh Khairul Islam, Oliul Islam and Tapan Pal, among others, were present.

However, shawls and food items will be distributed among those living below the poverty line in the area tomorrow.
