
DHAKA, Jan 18, 2026 (BSS)- Ten meritorious students of Dhaka University’s Mass Communication and Journalism department received the “Professor Sitara Parvin Award” for their outstanding results in the 2023 BSS (Honours) examinations.
The awardees are Azra Humayra, Muhammad Muzzammil Haque, Abir Ferdous Ayon, Kouritra Podder Tirtha, Asrifa Sultana Reya, Afrina Sultana, Sumaiya Jahan, Badhan Dev, Afrin Jahan and Md Rafiuzzaman Labib.
Dhaka University Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Sayema Haque Bidisha handed over the awards to the students as the chief guest at a programme held at Professor Mozzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium on Sunday.
Acting Chairman of the Mass Communication and Journalism department Professor Dr. Taiabur Rahman presided over the prize giving ceremony while the Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam attended it as a guest speaker.
Assistant Professor Shaonti Haidar presented a brief note over the life of late Professor Sitara Parvin, on whose name the award has been conferred.
Speaking at the event, Professor Dr Sayema said the award is a recognition of the students’ merit and hard work, which will encourage them to move further ahead in life.
She also paid deep respect to the memory of Professor Sitara Parvin and said such initiatives would help the new generation of students learn about her life and contributions.
Prof. Taiabur Rahman called on the students to fulfil the duty to the nation by doing objective journalism.
Mahfuz Anam in his speech highlighted the growing challenges of journalism in the country and called upon the graduating students to uphold journalistic values and ethics and not compromising with the truth even when it is bitter.
Professor Dr Sitara Parvin, daughter of former President and Chief Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed and wife of Professor Dr Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali, died in a tragic road accident in the United States on June 23 in 2005.
