DHAKA, Jan 19, 2026 (BSS)- Russian Federation today handed over 30,000 tonnes of Muriate of Potash fertilizer to Bangladesh as a gift under the World Food Programme (WFP).
Russia’s leading fertilizer producer Uralchem is providing the fertilizer as a gift to Bangladesh, according to an official release.
On the occasion, a programme was held at BARC auditorium here in which Agriculture and Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, was present as the chief guest and Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bangladesh Alexander G. Khozin as special guest. Secretary of the agriculture ministry Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian was in the chair.
Agriculture Adviser said in the current global context, food and fertilizer supply has emerged as a major challenge. The adverse impacts of climate change, instability in international markets and various global crises are being felt in the agricultural sector.
In such circumstances, global cooperation and partnership are more important than ever before, he said.
The adviser said at present, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) has a stock of 1.035 million metric tons of fertilizers, other than urea, which is the highest stock since the establishment of the organization in 1961.
In addition, significant progress has been achieved in the agricultural sector during the tenure of the current interim government, the adviser said.
