KHULNA, Jan 20, 2026 (BSS) - A day-long workshop titled "See the Truth, Be the Change" on civic education and youth engagement was held today at Khulna University.

Jointly organized by the Bangladesh Election Commission and UNDP, and supported by the Khulna University Debating Club Naiyayik, the workshop took place at the conference room of the Central Library, with participation from students across various disciplines.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Director of Student Affairs of Khulna University, Professor Dr Md Nazmus Sadat, said a significant portion of the country's voters now belongs to the younger generation, and their informed and conscious participation is crucial for building a strong and well-guided state.

He said the upcoming election is an important chapter in determining the country's future, cautioning that false and misleading information can misguide a nation and even push it toward destruction. He stressed that the future of the country depends on accurate, verified, and responsible information.

The workshop included several sessions on civic education, information disorder, identifying distorted and manipulated content, fact-checking tools, and developing responsible information-sharing practices.

The sessions were conducted by Senior District Election Officer of Khulna Md Sohel Samad, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Bangladesh Election Commission Md Moniruzzaman, and senior broadcast journalist of Jamuna Television Ahmed Reza.

A youth dialogue and a question-and-answer session were also held.

The main objective of the workshop was to raise awareness among young people about civic responsibilities and democratic processes, enhance their ability to identify fake and misleading information, and encourage verification before sharing information.

Special emphasis was placed on developing critical thinking through interactive learning methods and real-life examples.
