DHAKA, Jan 29, 2026 (BSS) - Senior Secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed today said the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and the Officer-in-Charge (OC) concerned have been withdrawn following an unfortunate incident in Sherpur as an immediate administrative measure.

He said the incident occurred on Wednesday during a programme related to the election code of conduct, which includes joint manifesto reading and declarations of compliance by rival candidates.

Briefing journalists at the Election Commission building in the capital's Agargaon area, the EC senior secretary said the commission has decided that candidates whose nominations are upheld or reinstated by court by February 8 may be included in postal ballots for expatriate voters.

He said candidates reinstated after February 8 will not be eligible for postal ballots due to time constraints in printing, dispatch and return of ballots.

Akhtar Ahmed also said campaign banners may be displayed within the prescribed size of 10 feet by 4 feet under the code of conduct.
