Jamaat condemns attack in Sherpur, mourns local leader's death

DHAKA, Jan 28, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar condemned the attack during an election manifesto reading in Jhenaigati, Sherpur, which led to the death of Maulana Rezaul Karim, Secretary of the Shibpur Upazila Jamaat.

In a statement, Parwar called for the immediate arrest of those responsible for the violence and demanded exemplary punishment.

Parwar criticized the failure of law enforcement to ensure the safety of the injured, urging the Election Commission to take immediate steps to ensure security and a violence-free environment before the elections.

He extended sympathies to the bereaved family, saying, "Karim's martyrdom would not be in vain," and vowed to continue the fight against terrorism and oppression.
