DHAKA, Jan 28, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman today said if the country can eliminate theft, robbery and corruption, Bangladesh's image will undergo a dramatic transformation in just five years.

"If the nation falls back into misrule, the country's fate will remain unchanged for another 50 years," he told an electoral rally and public meeting in his constituency, Dhaka-15 (Mirpur-Kafrul), as part of the 11-party alliance's campaign.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman further expressed concerns about widespread extortion, stating that small shopkeepers, street vendors and homeowners are frequent victims of extortion. He emphasized that not everyone in the world relies on extortion to survive and called on the nation to reject this practice for the sake of peace and progress.

He highlighted the extensive corruption permeating various sectors, with individuals often required to pay bribes or extortion money to access basic services.

"We demand justice for all, regardless of status. In a fair society, no one, not even the President, should escape punishment for wrongdoing. The root cause of extortion, corruption and crime lies in the failure of justice," he added.

Addressing the future of children, Shafiqur stressed that they are the nation's greatest asset and their proper education will shape a prosperous Bangladesh.

"Children from impoverished families should have equal opportunities, and with the right education, they could one day lead the country," he said.

Jamaat Chief outlined his vision for a secure society where women and children can live without fear. He promised that under his leadership, mothers would feel safe both at home and in the workplace, and children would be protected from harm, such as accidents caused by reckless driving.

Regarding the upcoming national election on February 12, he encouraged voters to cast their ballots for a brighter future. "Voting 'Yes' means rejecting fascism, and 'Yes' means freedom. If you want to see a Bangladesh free from abductions and killings, vote for 'Yes'," he said.

He mentioned the ongoing mismanagement in Dhaka-15, citing deteriorating infrastructure, poor drainage systems, lack of quality education and healthcare facilities, security issues, and the prevalence of drugs and terrorism. He pledged to address these issues if entrusted with the people's support.

Jamaat Ameer also warned those involved in violence against women that they will face the consequences of their actions, urging them to seek forgiveness from the victims and from God.

Later, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and his supporters distributed leaflets to local businesspeople and citizens, seeking their votes in the upcoming elections.
