
RANGPUR, Jan 29, 2026 (BSS) - A two-day Winter Festival-1432, organized by the students of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), began this afternoon at the university's Independence Memorial Square.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Showkat Ali formally inaugurated the festival by cutting a ribbon at a colorful ceremony held on the campus. His wife Mahmuda Akhter attended the event as a guest of honor.
In his inaugural speech, the Vice-Chancellor said such initiatives play an important role in introducing traditional Bengali folk culture to the younger generation.
"The winter festival connects students with our culture and heritage. Events like this strengthen camaraderie and promote cultural integration on the campus," he added.
Following the inauguration, Professor Dr. Showkat Ali, along with his spouse and invited guests, visited various stalls showcasing traditional pitha-puli from different regions of the country.
The festival also features cultural programs, including folk songs, dances, poetry recitations and musical performances, which are being held in the evenings on January 29 and 30.
Members of the organizing committee and other concerned officials were present at the inaugural ceremony.
