JU seeks govt action to ensure security of Prof Nahreen

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Feb 08, 2026 (BSS) - The Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have written to the Home Affairs Ministry seeking necessary measures to ensure the security of the university's Geography and Environment Professor Dr Nahreen I Khan following repeated harassment and death threats.

An anonymous threatening letter was sent to Prof Nahreen I Khan's residence on January 29, according to the university administration, said a press release signed by JU Acting Director of the Public Relations Office Mohammad Mahiuddin tonight.

In recent times, Prof Nahreen has reportedly been subjected to continuous harassment and life threats centring on her public expressions, raising serious concerns over her personal safety, the release said.

The JU administration said the receipt of the anonymous threat letter at her residence has pushed the security issue to an alarming level, prompting immediate institutional intervention.

Earlier, Jahangirnagar University Nationalist Teachers' Forum expressed deep concern over the matter and formally urged the university administration to take steps to ensure the professor's safety.

In view of the situation, the university authorities sent a letter to the Home Affairs Ministry requesting it to take necessary measures to ensure the security of Prof Nahreen I Khan.
