DHAKA, Feb 13, 2026 (BSS)- The referendum on the implementation of the July Charter saw a 60.26 percent voter turnout, with the “yes” vote winning a clear majority.

“Yes” secured victory in the referendum held on the implementation of the July Charter, with 48,074,429 voters casting their ballots in favor, while 22,565,627 voted ‘No’, Election Commission (EC) Secretary Akhtar Ahmed told a press briefing at the Election Commission building at Agargaon today.

The referendum was held yesterday alongside the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

Explaining why the turnout in the referendum was slightly higher than that of the parliamentary election, he said, “The voter turnout in the national parliamentary election stood at 59.44 percent, while in the referendum it was 60.26 percent.”

“The reason is that although the results of two parliamentary constituencies in Chattogram, Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4, were suspended following a court order, there was no restriction on the referendum in those constituencies. As a result, votes cast there were included in the overall referendum results,” he added.

Replying to a question from journalists regarding the publication of the gazette, he said the results of the parliamentary election and the referendum would not be published separately. Instead, a consolidated gazette will be issued.
He added that after receiving the hard copies of the final results from the returning officers and completing necessary scrutiny, the gazette will be published at the earliest possible time.
