DHAKA, April 16, 2026 (BSS)- Marginal farmer Kabir Hossain of Tangail district received the 'Farmer Card' in accordance with government rules, as confirmed by separate investigation committees formed after the circulation of misleading information on social media.

Kabir Hossain, a marginal farmer from Sadar upazila, received the 'Farmer Card' from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at a function at Shaheed Maruf Stadium in the district on April 14 where he also expressed his feelings.

However, soon after receiving the card, misleading and negative information began circulating on social media using AI-generated deepfake images, creating confusion among the public.

Department of Agricultural Extension formed a three-member investigation committee on April 15 to look after the matter.

At the same time, the Deputy Commissioner of Tangail formed a separate five-member committee to conduct an independent field-level investigation.

Both investigation committees confirmed that the farmer selection process was conducted properly through three stages of verification as per government rules.

Their reports identified Kabir Hossain, son of Md. Abu Sayeed Talukdar, a resident of North Tarutia village under Suruj Agricultural Block in Gharinda union of Sadar upazila, as a marginal farmer and sharecropper.

The reports stated that Kabir owns 13 decimals of land and has cultivated 160 decimals of land this year as a sharecropper by leasing land from various individuals.

The investigation committees concluded that Kabir Hossain is a genuine farmer and received the 'Farmer Card' following due procedures.

A vested group carried out the misinformation campaign with the ill intention of disrupting the government's development initiative, according to a PID handout.
