DHAKA, Feb 14, 2026 (BSS) – Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has congratulated National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam on his party’s success in the 13 national parliamentary elections.

“The courage, determination and confidence with which the NCP participated in the 13th national parliament elections under your leadership will be marked as a significant chapter in the democratic history of Bangladesh,” he said in a message sent to Nahid Islam today.

As a new political party born only a year ago in the context of the 2024 student–people uprising, contesting 30 seats, securing victory in six of them, and mounting intense and respectable competition in several others is an extraordinary achievement, the Chief Adviser said.

Prof Yunus noted that this success is not merely a matter of electoral statistics; it is a powerful expression of the confidence, dreams, and democratic spirit of the younger generation.

“The memories of those turbulent days of 2024 remain vivid in our minds. Your leadership, courage, and indomitable morale made that movement disciplined and goal-oriented,” he said.

“The sacrifices and firm stance of your fellow fighters have awakened a deep sense of gratitude in the heart of the nation. Personally, and on behalf of the nation, I express my profound respect and gratitude to all of you,” the Chief Adviser added.

He said, “Having the opportunity to work with you for some time as a colleague in the Council of Advisers was a valuable experience for me. During that time, your efficiency, subject-based depth, principled firmness, and eagerness to understand administrative processes impressed me”.

Prof Yunus said democracy flourishes when new voices emerge, new ideas find space, and bridges are built between generations.

“The success of your party within this short-time proves that the people of Bangladesh, especially the youth, are ready to place their trust in principled and values-based politics. Preserving that trust is now your major responsibility,” he added.

The Chief Adviser further noted that through their representation in parliament, NCP has gained a historic opportunity to raise the hopes and aspirations of the people, particularly the dreams and expectations of the younger generation.

He expressed the hope that under Nahid Islam’s leadership, the NCP will strengthen democracy and give it a more institutional form through constructive, rational, and responsible political practice.

Prof Yunus said, “Today’s achievement signals even greater responsibilities in the days ahead. The transition from the path of struggle into mainstream politics must preserve ideals and values—this is the expectation of all of us”.

He prayed to Almighty Allah for Nahid Islam’s personal good health, long life, and overall well-being.
