DHAKA, Feb 19, 2026 (BSS) – Newly appointed Women and Children Affairs Minister AZM Zahid Hossain today said the BNP, in its election manifesto, pledged to work for the development of women and children.

“We have to work beyond traditional lines. Some changes may be needed in the existing policies. Everything will depend on the government’s budget and the ministry’s capacity to implement programmes,” he said.

AZM Zahid made the remarks while exchanging views with officials of the ministry at a meeting held at the ministry’s conference room at the Secretariat here.

State Minister Farzana Sharmin was also present.

The minister expressed his determination to move the ministry forward through teamwork in order to implement the people’s mandate.

State Minister Farzana Sharmin said, “We need to adopt a proper and effective plan for the development of two-thirds of the country’s population. Development projects should not remain confined to paper; they must be implemented in a way that brings tangible benefits to the people. We have to work with a clear vision to build the future of women and children through the proper use of limited resources.”

She added, “We must ensure the proper utilisation of resources, prevent wastage, and gain people’s trust by identifying their real problems and ensuring effective solutions.”

She expressed hope that, through joint efforts, the ministry would be established as an effective institution working for the development of women and children.

Senior Secretary of the ministry Momtaz Ahmed, along with officials and heads of various departments and organisations under the ministry, were present.

A documentary on the activities of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and its ongoing development projects was screened at the meeting.
