DHAKA, Feb 19, 2026 (BSS) – Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam today asked the officials concerned to complete the ongoing projects under the ministry within the specified timeframe.

He gave the directives while exchanging views with officials of the ministry and heads of its subordinate departments and agencies at the ministry’s conference room, said an official handout.

Newly appointed State Ministers for Shipping Habibur Rashid and Md. Rajib Ahsan were present on the occasion.

Rabiul Alam said no negligence in project implementation will be tolerated. If any project is delayed without legal complications or specific valid reasons, those responsible will be held accountable, he said.

The minister said the quality of development projects implemented with public funds must meet proper standards.

Referring to important role of the shipping sector in the country’s economy, he said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the improvement and modernization of the country’s shipping and railway services.

The government is committed to ensuring safe water transport for passengers by bringing exemplary and timely changes in the shipping sector, he said.

“We do not wish to establish an authoritarian state system. Rather, we want to be true servants of the people. Protecting the interests of the people is our sole objective,” he said.

He called upon all officials and employees of the ministry to perform their duties with honesty and dedication and directed them to formulate an implementable action plan for the next 180 days.

To ensure safe and smooth travel during the upcoming Eid journey, the minister instructed the relevant authorities to take effective measures from now and expressed hope that, through collective efforts, this year’s Eid journey will be comfortable as in the previous year.

Shipping Secretary Dr. Nurun Nahar Chowdhury along with officials of the ministry and heads of various departments and agencies were present.
