RAJSHAHI, Feb 20, 2026 (BSS)- Member of Parliament (MP) for Rajshahi-6
(Charghat-Bagha) Abu Sayeed Chand has instructed authorities to follow a
zero-tolerance policy regarding drugs.

He said that the major problem in Charghat is waterlogging, however, the
causes of waterlogging are not being properly identified.

The main reason, he stated, is the unplanned and illegal excavation of
hundreds of ponds in Charghat over the past few years. Due to this
indiscriminate pond digging, waterlogging in the area has now taken a severe
form. He expressed his desire that not a single piece of land be illegally
excavated for ponds in the future.

Abu Sayeed Chand made these remarks on Thursday afternoon while speaking as
the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting organised by the Upazila
Administration with officials and employees of various levels.

Addressing the local administration, he said that from now on, no illegal
pond excavation should be allowed in Charghat under any circumstances. No
matter how influential the person involved may be, proper legal action must
be taken without hesitation.

Charghat-Bagha faces another serious and complex problem-drug, he said,
adding, "A zero-tolerance policy must be strictly enforced against narcotics.
If any leader uses the party's name to lobby on behalf of drug dealers, they
too must be brought under the law."

The newly-elected lawmaker reminded the audience that he had long served as
chairman of both a Union Parishad (UP) and the Upazila Parishad.

He said he believes that if the police administration performs its duties
with honesty, integrity, and dedication, turning Charghat-Bagha into a drug-
free upazila would only be a matter of time.

However, he cautioned that this would not be possible if there are "black
sheep within the ranks." Therefore, he directed the police to carry out their
responsibilities strictly in controlling drugs.

He also said that the authorities and their officers know who the criminals
are and who the drug kingpins are in society. He urged them to quickly arrest
those criminals and drug kingpins and adopt a firm policy to make Charghat
drug-free.

The meeting was chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jannatul Ferdous.
Among others who spoke at the event were Assistant Commissioner (Land)
Rahatul Karim Mizan, Officer-in-Charge of Charghat Model Police Station Helal
Uddin Faruqi and Upazila BNP President and former Mayor Zakirul Islam Bikul.
