BOGRA, Feb 20, 2026 (BSS) - Beef is being sold at a subsidized rate of Taka
630 per kilogram (Kg) in Bogura to ensure affordability for people of all
socio-economic backgrounds during the Holy month of Ramadan.
The programme, organized by the Bogura District Livestock Department with
the formal approval of the District Administration, aims to alleviate the
financial burden on consumers by providing quality meat at a fixed, lower-
than-market price.
The sale commenced today at 8am at a designated spot in front of Shahid
Khokon Park in the city. The programme met with immediate and significant
public interest, approximately 10 maunds of meat, sourced from two cows, were
completely sold out within the first two hours of operation.
The initiative is a result of a collaborative partnership between the Bogura
District Livestock Department and the District Administration. The "Grow-Up
Meat Project" played a vital role by supplying the cattle directly from their
farm for the sale.
Regarding the quality of the meat, Jihad, a Field Officer for the Grow-Up
Meat Project, confirmed that the cows were raised under strict standards and
fed exclusively on natural feed at their facility to ensure health and
nutritional value.
To maximize the reach of the programme and ensure that as many households as
possible can benefit, the organisers have implemented specific purchase
regulations.
Consumers are permitted to buy as little as 250 grams, with a maximum limit
of two-kg per person. These limits were established to ensure that the
initiative remains accessible to all classes of people-particularly lower-
income citizens who may only require small portions-and to prevent bulk
purchasing by a few individuals.
The programme is designed to be a recurring service throughout the festive
month.
Sadar Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Raihan emphasized that the primary
mission of this initiative is to ensure affordable prices for all citizens.
He officially confirmed that these beef sales will continue to take place
every Friday throughout the duration of Ramadan.
The initiative has received positive feedback from local industry leaders.
Sheikh Taha Uddin Nahin, general secretary of the District Dairy Farm
Association, praised the effort for its consumer-centric approach.
"This is a commendable initiative. General consumers are benefiting
significantly by being able to purchase meat at prices lower than the
standard market rate. Furthermore, the ability to buy in small quantities
according to their specific needs is a great advantage for the public," he
added.
