DHAKA, Feb 25, 2026 (BSS) - Ambassador of the European Union to Bangladesh, Michael Miller, who led a delegation of EU representatives, met with Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat today.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed in details various aspects of trade, investment and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and the European Union.

The Commerce Minister said the European Union is an important trading partner for Bangladesh and the government will continue working to further strengthen bilateral trade relations in the coming years, said a Commerce Ministry press release.

“We want to facilitate business and investment. Over the past three years, the economy remained sluggish and investment inflows were limited. Around two million people enter the workforce in our country every year. We want to make Bangladesh investment-friendly, and you will see visible progress in the coming days,” he said.

He also called for increased investment from the European Union in Bangladesh.

Ambassador Michael Miller said the European Union is keen to further enhance trade relations with Bangladesh. He sought the Commerce Minister’s cooperation in removing non-tariff barriers and stressed the need for diversification of Bangladesh’s export products.

The Ambassador also said the partnership between Bangladesh and the European countries would continue and called for ensuring a level playing field in bilateral trade and commerce.

State Minister for Commerce Md. Shariful Alam, Additional Secretary (Export) Md Abdur Rahim Khan and Additional Secretary (FTA) Ayesha Akter, among others, were present at the meeting.

The EU delegation included the Ambassadors of Spain, Denmark, France, Sweden, Italy and Germany, as well as EU Trade Adviser Abu Sayeed Belal.
