DHAKA, Feb 25, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shafiqur Rahman today paid deep tribute to the Army officers who were killed in the 2009 BDR carnage, by visiting their graves at Banani Military Graveyard.
Dr Rahman visited the graveyard around 12:30 pm and offered prayers seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of the army personnel who were killed in the 2009 mutiny at the then Bangladesh Rifles (now Border Guard Bangladesh) headquarters in Pilkhana.
Member of the party’s central executive council and Ameer of Dhaka North city unit Md Selim Uddin, along with leaders and activists of Banani and Gulshan thana units of Jamaat, accompanied him during the visit.
Addressing the families of the martyred army members, Dr Rahman said that 74 people, including 57 brave army officers, were brutally killed in a planned incident at Pilkhana in Dhaka on February 25 and 26, 2009.
“They were patriotic and among the nation’s finest assets. We remember the deceased with profound respect and pray for the forgiveness of their souls. May Almighty Allah grant you patience,” he said.
Referring to the incident, he said the nation wants to know the actual reasons behind the brutal killings of army officers on February 25 and 26, 2009.
He also demanded that the names of those found responsible, as per the report of the ‘BDR Investigation Commission’ formed by the interim government, be made public and called for their immediate arrest and exemplary punishment as per the law.
