Bangladesh, Switzerland eye stronger ties in infrastructure, development: Rabiul Alam

DHAKA, March 8, 2026 (BSS) - Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and 
Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam today expressed hope for further 
strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Switzerland through 
enhanced cooperation in infrastructure, technology, port management and 
development sectors.

The remarks came when Reto Renggli, ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh, 
paid a courtesy call on the minister at his office at the ministry in Dhaka. 

During the discussion, Ambassador Renggli congratulated the current 
government formed with the overwhelming support of the people of Bangladesh 
and expressed Switzerland's interest in further strengthening bilateral 
relations based on mutual interests and cooperation.

Bangladesh and Switzerland share long-standing friendly relations and said 
both countries are keen to expand cooperation in the coming years, he noted. 

The ambassador highlighted the potential for collaboration in Bangladesh's 
infrastructure development, technology sector, port management and various 
development projects.

Renggli also assured Switzerland's continued support and cooperation in these 
sectors on the basis of mutual partnership.

Welcoming the ambassador, the Minister said Bangladesh is moving forward 
rapidly in infrastructure and development, adding that the cooperation of 
international partners can play a significant role in sustaining this 
progress.

He expressed optimism that Bangladesh and Switzerland would work together in 
areas such as infrastructure development, technology transfer, port 
management and increasing foreign investment.

The minister said collaboration with international partners is crucial for 
Bangladesh's development journey, and cooperation with a friendly country 
like Switzerland will help accelerate the implementation of various 
development projects.

At the end of the meeting, both sides expressed hope to maintain regular 
communication and cooperation to further strengthen Bangladesh-Switzerland 
relations in the future.

Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Department Dr. Mohammad Ziaul 
Haque was also present during the meeting.
