2 gatemen suspended over Cumilla train-bus crash

CUMILLA, March 22, 2026 (BSS) - The railway authorities have temporarily suspended two gatemen for negligence in their duties in the horrific bus-train collision in the district last night.

At least 12 people were killed and 10 others injured in the accident that took place under a flyover of Bishwaroad in Padua Bazar of Jangalia area of Cumilla Sadar Dakkhin upazila of the district last midnight.

The suspended two gatemen are- Helal Uddin and Mehedi Hasan, Railway's Chttogram Divisional Manager Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan confirmed the matter today.

However, he said necessary action would be taken against those found negligent in their duties.

The accident occurred when the Dhaka-bound ‘Chattogram Mail Train’ hit a passenger bus while the driver of the bus tried to cross a rail line in the area. 

Of the deceased, seven were male, two female and three were children.
