LALMONIRHAT, April 24, 2026 (BSS) - Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has said that the Bangla New Year is a shining symbol of the nation's non-communal secular spirit, heritage and culture.

"Pahela Baishakh is a festival of the heart for Bengalis, which inspires people to rise above all differences and stand together in unity," he told this afternoon while inaugurating a two-day Baishakhi festival as the chief guest at the field of Shahid Abul Kashem Degree College at Borobari.

The minister further said that the younger generation must be nurtured as the bearers of the nation's traditions and culture and educational institutions can play an important role in this regard.

Events like Baishakhi celebrations help awaken patriotism, humanity and cultural consciousness among students, he added.

Teachers, students, local dignitaries and people from various professions attended the programme. The two-day festival featured cultural performances, rural sports, horse racing competitions, discussions and a Baishakhi fair, creating a festive atmosphere among participants.
