DHAKA, April 25, 2026 (BSS) – Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury today said ensuring quality education is the main goal of the present government and implementation of promises made to the people has already begun within just two months.
A monstrous force had systematically destroyed the country’s education system and constitutional institutions, misleading students with distorted history and conspiring to undermine merit, which pushed the nation backward, he added.
The minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the annual sports, cultural and prize distribution ceremony of Kazi Shalima Haque Mohila Degree College in Mohammadpur upazila of Magura today, said a press release.
Referring to reforms in the education system, he said there was a time when a destructive directive was given to pass 98 percent of students without examinations. “We are working to reverse that trend and restore the real standard of education,” he added.
Mentioning that there is a plan to double the salaries and allowances of teachers to improve their standard of living, the minister said teachers must also be more responsible towards their duties, show greater care to students and attend classes with proper preparation.
Earlier, Nitai Roy Chowdhury was accorded a colourful reception at the college premises.
Presided over by President of the college Governing Body Newaz Halima Arli, the function was attended, among others, by Magura Zila Parishad Administrator Ali Ahmed, Joint Conveners of Magura district unit BNP Advocate Rokonuzzaman Khan and Advocate Mithun Roy Chowdhury and Mohammadpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Muhammad Shahnur Zaman as special guests.
The minister also distributed prizes among the winners of the annual sports and cultural competitions.
