DHAKA, April 30, 2026 (BSS) – President Mohammed Shahabuddin has extended greetings to all workers at home and abroad on the occasion of the Great May Day and National Occupational Health and Safety Day-2026 to be observed tomorrow.

In a message on the eve of the day, he said observance of the day with due dignity is encouraging.

The Head of State termed this year’s theme, “Healthy workers, productive hands; a new dawn awaits,” as timely, highlighting workers’ rights and safety.

Recalling the 1886 Chicago workers’ sacrifice for an eight-hour workday, he said the May Day inspires the global working class. He also mentioned initiatives taken by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman for workers’ welfare.

The President said the government has undertaken various programmes for workers’ welfare, including labour law reforms, fair wages, social protection, pension systems, and safeguarding trade union rights.

He noted that workers are the driving force of development and stressed ensuring their rights, safety, and social protection to build a prosperous Bangladesh.

He expressed hope that these initiatives would improve workers’ lives and wished all programmes a success marking the day.
