JASHORE, May 10, 2026 (BSS) - Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Professor Dr. Sheikh Md. Mizanur Rahman of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) along with his wife Firoza Parvin has donated Tk 50 lakh to the university's Education Welfare Trust to provide financial assistance to underprivileged yet meritorious students.

The couple handed over a cheque worth Tk 50 lakh to JUST Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yarul Kabir in the conference room of the administrative building this morning.

With the amount of money, a "Professor Dr. Sheikh Md. Mizanur Rahman and Firoza Parvin Education Welfare Trust" will be established at the university.

The principal amount of this trust fund will be kept as a fixed deposit, and from the dividends earned on this deposit, scholarships will be provided each year to underprivileged meritorious students from all departments of the university.

While handing over the cheque for the trust fund, Prof Mizanur Rahman said, "It has been my wife's and my long-standing wish and intention to establish education welfare trust for the welfare of underprivileged meritorious students of this university. With the sincere cooperation of the university administration, that wish has been fulfilled today."

"I hope our teachers and alumni will also work for the welfare of students. We all need to ensure that no student's education is disrupted due to financial reasons. It is our responsibility to build their beautiful future," he added.

Welcoming this noble initiative, JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Yarul Kabir said, "This is the first time in the history of JUST that an education welfare trust has been established with a teacher's personal funding. Professor Mizan's sacrifice and noble initiative will inspire students."

Prof Mizanur Rahman, as a senior teacher of the university, has long been making significant contributions to teaching and research in the GEBT department. He is currently serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences and Technology.
