KHULNA, May 10, 2026 (BSS) – A large python was rescued from a village adjacent to the Sundarbans in Shoronkhola in Bagerhat and released into the forest this afternoon.

Members of the Wild Team and Village Tiger Response Team (VTRT) rescued the python from a paddy field behind the house of local farmer Ilias Matubbar.

Rescuers said the snake had already eaten three ducks belonging to the farmer.

VTRT member Md Hasan Munsi said they rushed to the spot after receiving a phone call from the farmer.

“We found the huge python lying in the paddy field after swallowing ducks. Later, we managed to capture it safely and handed it over to the Forest Department,” he said.

Farmer Ilias Matubbar said he went to the field after hearing unusual noises from his ducks behind the house.

“After spotting the python, I quickly returned home and informed the rescuers. The snake had eaten three of my ducks,” he added.

Wild Team’s Shoronkhola field facilitator Md Alam Howlader said the python tried to attack the rescuers during the operation.

“Using special techniques, we were able to capture it safely and hand it over to the Forest Department. The python is around 15 feet long and weighs nearly 25 kilograms,” he said.

Shoronkhola Station Officer of the East Sundarbans Division Khalilur Rahman said the rescued python was later released into a forest area on the eastern side of the range office.
