Agriculture development, human welfare embedded in Rabindranath’s philosophy: Ariful Islam

KHULNA, May 10, 2026 (BSS) – Deputy Director of the Local Government Division in Khulna Md. Ariful Islam today said the philosophy of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore contains guidance for agricultural development, rural prosperity and human welfare.

“Rabindranath was not only a poet of literature and culture, but also a pioneer in the fields of agriculture, rural development and humanitarian thought,” he said while addressing a discussion meeting as the chief guest at Dakhindihi Rabindra Complex in Phultala this afternoon.

The discussion was held on the concluding day of a three-day programme arranged marking the 165th birth anniversary of the world poet.

Ariful Islam said stressed the need for the younger generation to learn about Tagore’s philosophy of agriculture and rural development alongside his literary works and humanitarian values to help build a creative, humane and developed society.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Khulna Bitaan Kumar Mondal presided over the meeting.
Educationist and researcher Md. Abdul Mannan presented the keynote paper on “Rabindranath’s Agricultural Philosophy”, while Phultala Upazila Nirbahi Officer Suchi Rani Saha delivered the welcome speech.

The speakers observed that Tagore’s ideas on agriculture and rural development remain highly relevant even today and can inspire the younger generation in promoting sustainable agriculture and rural progress.

People from different walks of life, literary enthusiasts, cultural personalities, teachers, students and local dignitaries attended the programme.

A cultural function was held in the evening following the discussion session.
