RAJSHAHI, May 10, 2026 (BSS) - Rajshahi University (RU) campus came alive on Sunday as newly admitted students began classes for the 2025-26 academic year, filling the university with excitement, anticipation and fresh dreams.
From the morning onward, groups of freshers were seen across the campus, many accompanied by their guardians as they gathered in front of different faculties and departments. By 10am, the campus had already started buzzing with activity, and the crowd continued to grow throughout the day.
A walk around the university revealed an atmosphere of celebration and curiosity. Popular spots including the Shaheed Minar, Paris Road, Tukitaki Chattar, Am Chattar, Paribahan Market and Iblish Chattar were crowded with both new and senior students exchanging greetings and taking in the first-day experience.
For many students, the journey to RU was marked by perseverance and determination.
Salman Ahmed, a fresher in the Islamic Studies department, described the day as deeply meaningful.
"The university's new environment is full of joy and excitement for us," he said. "But getting here wasn't easy. I became very frustrated after missing the opportunity the first time. Later, I tried again and finally earned the chance to study at Rajshahi University."
Rifat, a student of the Political Science department, said beginning university life after a long wait felt like the start of a new chapter.
"I achieved this through hard work and sacrifice," he said. "The teachers and senior students have been very welcoming. I hope I will be able to fulfill my goals here."
Farhad Reza, enrolled in the Pharmacy department, said he had developed a special attachment to RU long before becoming a student there.
"I visited this campus earlier and felt a strong connection with it," he said. "Although I had opportunities at other universities, I chose RU. I want to study sincerely and make my parents proud."
Rashedul Islam, a fresher in the Banking and Insurance department, also shared his excitement about stepping into university life.
"Everything feels new-new friends, a new environment, a new family," he said. "There's a special motivation inside me knowing that I am now a student of this university."
Welcoming the new students, university Proctor Professor Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman wished them a memorable and successful campus life while also warning against ragging.
"I warmly welcome the freshers to the campus and hope their university life will be enjoyable," he said. "At the same time, ragging is a punishable offense and strictly against university discipline. If anyone is found involved, strong action will be taken. I urge everyone to maintain a friendly and cooperative environment."
Following a lengthy admission process, undergraduate (Honours) classes for the 2025-26 session officially began on Sunday at Rajshahi University.
