CHATTOGRAM, May 10, 2026 (BSS) - The National Consumer Rights Protection Department fined a company Tk 4 lakh during a raid in Chattogram's Madhyam Chaktai area for manufacturing and selling adulterated spices.

The drive was conducted on Sunday by a joint team from the Chattogram Divisional Office of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department and the Chattogram Metropolitan Police.

According to officials, M/s Naveen Traders was fined for mixing cumin spice with caraway seeds, packaging spices in an unhygienic environment, selling insect-infested spoiled spices and adulterating products with poppy powder.

During the same drive, two other businesses were also penalised, bringing the total fines to Tk 4.46 lakh.

Messrs. Gopal Das was fined Tk 40,000 for selling industrial dyes as food products and keeping banned chemical substances, including "Hydrose," which are considered harmful for food processing.

Meanwhile, Messrs. Shah Amanat Store was fined Tk 6,000 for selling expired ghee.

Deputy Director of Consumer Rights Mohammad Faiz Ullah said regular market monitoring drives are being carried out to protect public health and consumer interests.

He warned that strict action would continue against businesses involved in food adulteration, the sale of expired goods, and the use of harmful chemicals.
