DHAKA, May 19, 2026 (BSS) – President Mohammad Shahabuddin today described the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) members as vigilant guardians of rural Bangladesh, asking them to continue their glorious role in maintaining public safety and law and order.

The Head of the State made the call in a message issued today marking the 46th National Rally-2026 of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP slated for tomorrow.

He said the Ansar force was reorganised in line with the far-sighted vision and plans of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, while the Battalion Ansar was formed through enactment of the Ansar-VDP Act, 1995 under the leadership of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, giving the VDP a legal and organisational foundation.

“As a result of those visionary initiatives, the Ansar-VDP has now become the vigilant guardian of rural Bangladesh,” the President observed.

The President recalled the efficient contribution of the Ansar-VDP members alongside other forces and field administration to holding the recent Jatiya Sangsad (JS) polls in a free, fair, neutral and peaceful manner.

The Ansar-VDP would remain a trusted partner in building a modern, justice-based and inclusive “New Bangladesh”, he expressed the hope.

President Shahabuddin, in the message, also paid profound tribute to the 670 brave Ansar members who embraced martyrdom during the War of Liberation and all other members who sacrificed their lives for the motherland while performing duties at different times.

The President also prayed for the eternal peace of their departed souls.

He mentioned that the force members have been playing an important role in ensuring security at important government and private installations, tackling disasters, easing traffic congestion and creating skilled human resources through technical training for youths and women.

The President expressed the hope that the Ansar-VDP members would discharge their respective duties with utmost professionalism and discipline, giving priority to public interest.
