
THAKURGAON, July 14, 2026 (BSS)- Two individuals were arrested along with a
seven-kilogram sunstone, a type of gemstone ores often associated with
smuggling activities in the country, two motorcycles and various other items
in the district today.
The arrested are Dulal Hossain, 36, son of Chhabirul Islam from Radhanagar
Union in Atwari upazila and Kalim Uddin, 40, son of Sural Islam from the
Chapati area of Ruhia upazila of the district.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) reported that based on intelligence
information, a special patrol team led by Lieutenant Colonel Khandaker
Akhlakur Rahman, commander of the BGB Battalion 50, along with a regular
patrol team from Borshalupara BOP conducted an anti smuggling special
operation at the Borshalpara Border Area in Aloyakhoya Union of Atwari
upazila around 2:00am.
During the drive, Dulal and Kalim were detained with the seven-kilogram
sunstone which market value has been reported as Taka 7 lakh.
Later, the detainees and the seized goods were handed over to Atwari Police
Station, said a BGB press release here.
Lieutenant Colonel Khandaker Akhlakur Rahman said, BGB is implementing a
"zero tolerance policy" to prevent drugs and smuggling, and such operations
will continue in the future.
Matiar Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Atwari Police Station, told BSS, a
case has been filed by the BGB. Preparations are underway to produce the
detainees in court, he added.
