
CHATTOGRAM, July 14, 2026 (BSS) – BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General and Prime Minister's Political and Industrial Affairs Advisor Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today cautioned authorities against hunger in flood-hit areas, taking adequate steps for staples delivery to deluge victims.
“Make it sure that relief is reached to flood victims and no one suffers from hunger,” he told authorities concerned as he made an assessment tour at Banshkhali Upazila’s flood-affected areas on the outskirts of the port city and distributed succour among people in distress.
He noted that the flooding and related landslides caused loss of huge number of livestock alongside losses of other resources worth millions of Taka in inundated villages.
“The government is aware of the situation. Round the clock monitoring is underway," he said.
The premier’s adviser said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman by now joined a virtual meeting with field level administrative officials including civil surgeons to assess the situation in the affected areas and issued necessary directives.
He said the prime minster alerted doctors and officials concerned against spread of waterborne diseases, particularly skin ailments and dysentery and ensure prompt measures for required healthcare.
Rizvi, however, said people of deltaic Bangladesh learnt to be resilient as they continued to confront such challenges for generations.
But he expressed optimism that technological and scientific development in the current age and government's initiatives would ease people’s miseries keeping in mind climate change impacts.
Rizvi, however, said the disasters impacts could be attributed to constructions of unplanned structures during the previous government without considering the impact on people.
"These constructions were carried out through extensive corruption and funds were illicitly transferred overseas,” he said.
State Minster for land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Helal, who accompanied Rizvi, said the development of ill-planned infrastructures including culverts were being dismantled as the premier issued particular directives to ease water logging and drainage crisis.
Chattogram’s police superintendent Masud Alam, BNP’s south district joint convener Mishkatul Islam Chowdhury Pappa, member secretary Md Helal Uddin and other officials were present during the event.
