President calls for building humane, equitable Bangladesh inspired by Nazrul’s ideals

DHAKA, May 24, 2026 (BSS) – President Mohammed Shahabuddin today paid rich tributes to national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on his 127th birth anniversary, saying the poet’s ideals of equality, humanity, rebellion and love would continue to inspire people through generations.

In a message issued on the eve of the birth anniversary of the national poet, the President described Nazrul as one of the brightest stars of Bangla literature and culture.

“Nazrul made outstanding contributions to Bangla language and literature through his multifaceted creative works as a poet, musician, novelist, playwright, essayist and journalist as well,” the President mentioned.

The Head of the State said Nazrul was the herald of national awakening and a bold voice against exploitation, deprivation and injustice. 

His fiery poems and inspirational songs inspired different democratic movements and struggles of the country, including the anti-British movement, the Mass Uprising of 1969, the 1971 War of Liberation and the July mass uprising in 2024, he added.

Expressing hope, the President said the nation would be able to build an equitable, just and humane Bangladesh being imbued with the Nazrul’s ideals, patriotism, honesty and dedication.

President Shahabuddin also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul of the national poet.
