DHAKA, June 20, 2026 (BSS) - Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal today said the present government wants the judiciary to function independently.
"As Attorney General, I have served for nearly three months. During this time, no one has ever exerted any political pressure on me or made any political demand to influence any case, any individual, or to cause even the slightest deviation in the justice system of the state.
This proves that the present government wants the judiciary to function independently," he said.
The chief state counsel said this while addressing as chief guest at the annual general meeting (AGM) of the Supreme Court Reporters Forum (SRF) at Dhaka Club in the capital.
Recalling his past career as a journalist, the Attorney General said the primary responsibility of a reporter in the field of reporting is to present the true facts before the public. He added that justice in the country is delivered through the courts, and everyone must remain cautious so that no "media trial" takes place through the media.
The Attorney General also called upon the mainstream media to play an active role in countering misinformation on social media and online platforms by presenting accurate and factual information.
Presided over by outgoing SRF President Masudur Rahman Rana, the AGM was addressed by International Crimes Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam, BNP Legal Affairs Secretary Barrister Badruddoza Badal, Supreme Court Bar Secretary Advocate Mohammad Ali, and senior lawyer Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir.
