DHAKA, June 23, 2026 (BSS) - A 'government purchase order' circulating on social media and various online platforms regarding the import of non-basmati parboiled rice from India under the name of the Directorate General of Food (DG Food) is completely fake and fabricated, a PID press release said today.

The release clarified that the alleged order - dated June 16, 2026, and bearing memo number DGFOOD/IMP/RICE-IND/2026/1402 - claims that 150,000 metric tons of non-basmati parboiled rice will be imported from India.

The government has informed the general public that neither the Ministry of Food nor the DG Food has issued any such purchase order. Furthermore, the memo number, information, language, and presentation of the circulated document do not match official government records, nor does the alleged letter align with the procurement processes of the food ministry or directorate.

Such fake orders on social media are creating public confusion and misrepresenting government operations. The authorities have requested everyone not to be misled by such misinformation and rumors.

For any policy decisions, procurement activities, or official government orders, the public is urged to follow the verified and authorized websites of the Ministry of Food and the Directorate General of Food.

The government is also considering legal action under existing laws against the individuals or groups involved in spreading this fake information and rumors.
